  • As Al Gore likes to say, "The debate is over" when it comes to the science of global warming. Not so for Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), who apparently still harbors (along with 87% of his fellow congressional Republicans, according to a recent National Journal poll) serious doubts about the science of global warming. Rep. Rohrabacher-who, with a B.A. in American History from California State University, Long Beach, brandishes some formidable scientific credentials-disputed the conclusions of the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessment report thusly: "We don't know what the other cycles were caused by in the past. It could be dinosaur flatulence. Who knows?" Profound, Rep. Rohrabacher. Very profound.
  • Reporters continued the nonstop Barackfest '08 with volumes of coverage on all things Obama. With myriad stories on his penchant for cigarettes already published, Obama now promises to quit the cancerous habit, saying that "I've been chewing Nicorette strenuously." Meanwhile, Rolling Stone shares an amusing anecdote from Sen. Obama's first days on the job. "Listening to a bloviating colleague at his first meeting of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama slipped a three-word note to a member of his staff: 'Shoot. Me. Now.'" Any guesses on who this jabbering colleague was? Rolling Stone declines to say, but I have a couple of guesses: It was either Sen. Joe Biden, or-no, wait, just kidding. It was definitely Joe Biden.
  • Finally, Tom Vilsack dropped out less than three months into the race. He claims that "It is money and only money, that is the reason we are leaving". While Vilsack blames a lack of fundraising for his departure, I think he realized that no one could possibly take him seriously after this photo surfaced. Unfortunately for Tom, four-year olds still can't vote.
