Kelly Sawyers is the Communications Director of College Democrats. She also serves as Golden State Representative, proudly promoting the ideals of the greatest state in the Union. She is a sophomore in the College, majoring in American Studies (aka, the best major on campus), and minoring in Government and History. Before coming to Georgetown she spent two years interning at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, working on the "No on 73" and "No on 85" campaigns. Since arriving at Georgetown she has interned at The Ferguson Group and Rock the Vote, volunteered for Barack Obama, and helped to launch and run The Georgetown Progressive. She spends her spare time memorizing the lyrics to every classic rock song recorded between 1964 and 1975, reading trashy gossip websites, watching Law and Order: SVU marathons, and trying to avoid freezing or melting (depending on the season) to death in Washington, DC.
Kelly's Issues: federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, protecting a woman's right to choose, marriage equality, and the environment.
Ali Rozell is a sophomore in the SFS and a life-long resident of the "Show Me State," Missouri. Show her seven, and she'll show you eight. She also lives down the street from Governor Matt Blunt, and is constantly planning, yet never carrying out, attempts to steal his lawn furniture. Ali is majoring in International Politics and plans to obtain a certificate in African Studies. At Georgetown, in addition to her duties as Events Director to the E-board, Ali is the Missouri State Chair for GAAP and an Orientation Advisor for NSO. She is also involved in STAND (Students Taking Action Now: Darfur), H*yas for Choice, and Hoya Blue. Ali is a rabid Hoyas basketball fan and loves Leo's ice cream, country music, running along the Potomac, and stalking Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Alexa's Issues: U.S. foreign policy, marriage equality, a woman's right to choose.
Ella Damiano , a sophomore majoring in Health Studies, is from Connecticut, the Land of Steady Habits, whose voters could not muster the courage to ditch Joe Lieberman despite Ella's efforts in the primary and general elections. She is active in local politics and is happy to finally have Democratic representation in the Fourth Congressional District after firing the last Republican Congressman in New England. In addition to obsessing over Pre-Med classes, Ella has been an active EMT since age 16 and is now a GERM at Georgetown. In addition to politics and medicine, Ella enjoys cooking, sporadic participation in triathlons, booing when Lieberman is mentioned, and health care policy.
Ella's Issues: Universal health care, marriage equality, the environment.
Ryan Wilson (COL ’12) is the Freshman Representative of the College Democrats. Coming from the great state of Georgia, Ryan has enjoyed trying to turn his very red state blue. An avid Lakers and Falcons fan Ryan enjoys cheering on his teams when he is not talking politics. In high school, Ryan worked on several local campaigns for democrats most of which did not lead to any success making him very excited to be apart of the Presidential campaign and elections in Virginia that happened last year. Currently Ryan is a double major in Government and Sociology and plans to attend law school in the future. Outside of academics, he enjoys his weekly hip-hop radio show and attending as many Georgetown Basketball games as possible.
Anna Sannes (Col '11) hails from the tiny town of Kasson in good ol' Minnesota. She's majoring in government and math (yes, math) with a minor in economics. Anna began her political activism last year at St. Olaf College, where she started out as a member of both the College Democrats and the College Republicans, before she realized how incredibly liberal she is. A year ago, she was appointed to the St. Olaf Dems Eboard and started tabling obsessively. She served as the volunteer coordinator for a local campaign this summer and hasn't stopped canvassing since. Outside of Dems, Anna works in Congressman Keith Ellison's office, directs children's theater, skips in circles, tutors, spreads heresy in bible studies, and makes nerdy jokes.
Anna's Issues: Education, energy/environment, civil liberties, and foreign policy.
