General
Chief of Staff (High Time Commitment)
The Chief of Staff provides logisticalsupport to the President and Vice President by assisting with the day-to-dayoperations of the College Democrats. Specifically, the Chief of Staff isresponsible for:
- Organizing and executing tabling schedules
- Taking notes at both Executive and Appointed Board meetings
- Keeping track of all progress on board tasks
- Compiling notes from the different departments within the College Democrats and keeping members of the leadership updated on all projects
Outreach
Campus Outreach Director (High Time Commitment)
The Campus Outreach Director is the organization's chief liaison to other groups on campus. Specifically, the Campus Outreach Director is responsible for:
- Being the chief liaison for the Progressive Coalition
- Forming relationships with the leaders of like minded groups on campus
- Keeping abreast of the activities being sponsored by other organizations
- Actively seeking cosponsorship opportunities for the Dems with other groups
- Presenting proposals for cosponsorship of Dems' events to other groups on campus, and monitoring to assure projects are truly the efforts of all groups involved
The Community Outreach Director is the organization's chief liaison to the off-campus groups and organizations that we encounter during the year. Specifically, the Community Outreach Director is responsible for:
- Forming and maintaining relationships with DC organizations and clubs which could act as resources for the Dems.
- Working with the Vice President to plan events on Capitol Hill.
- Organizing projects or events for which we can pair with off-campus groups and organizations.
- Planning one community service project per semester.
College Democrats of America Outreach Director (Moderate to High Time Commitment)
The CDA Outreach Director is the organization's chief liaison to the National College Democrats of America and all its affiliates, the DC Federation of College Democrats, and the Democratic Party at all levels. Specifically, the CDA Outreach Director is responsible for:
- Responsible for organizing members to go to the Summer Convention.
- Responsible for attending all DC Federation and other CDA-related meetings and conferences and summits.
- Organizing all CDA-related events in DC..
- Developing relationships with CDA and party officials at all levels.
GUSA Outreach Director (Moderate Time Commitment)
The GUSA Outreach Director will be the GUCD liaison to GUSA. This person shall not be a currently sitting GUSA Senator or Officer of any kind. Specifically, the job entails:
- Attending weekly GUSA meetings, as well as special meetings of GUSA.
- Reporting to the organization the proceedings of said meetings.
- Acting as the organization's day-to-day liaison to GUSA.
- Keeping abreast of all relevant developments between meetings.
- Reaching out to GUSA senators when necessary.
Events
Speakers Director (High TimeCommitment)
The Speakers Director is the board position responsible for bringing a variety of high-quality speakers to campus during each semester. As speakers are a major part of the College Democrats' programming on campus, the Director of Speakers plays an especially vital role in the organization. Specifically, the position is responsible for:
- Inviting speakers to campus through communication with Congressional offices, think tanks, other DC organizations, and the Office of Federal Relations
- Coordinating with other members of the College Democrats to ensure that personal relationships are used in an effectively
- Following through on invitations and keeping track of all speaker-related progress with a detailed Speakers database
- Organizing speakers-related events on campus
Internship Director (Cyclical, Low to High Time Commitment)
The Internship Directorserves to assist members of the College Democrats with finding internships inthe District. The Internship Director’s responsibilities include:
- Organizing one on-campus internship fair per semester.
- Sending invitations and following through with offices for the internship fair
- Coordinating room reservations and all logistics in connection with the internship fair
- Supervising the Events Staff in conjunction with internship fair
- Maintaining an up-to-date internship database on the website.
- Cultivating good relations between the Georgetown College Democrats and Democratic or progressive offices on the Hill and throughout the District.
Campaign Coordinator (Moderate Time Commitment in Spring, High in Fall)
The Campaign Coordinatoris the board position in charge of all campaign activity for members of theCollege Democrats. Specifically, the Campaign Coordinator’s responsibilitiesinclude:
- Organizing campaign-related activities, including local trips and
road trips. - Coordinating on-campus activities, including phone banking, for Democratic campaigns.
- Keeping track of all campaign opportunities in this key 2008 Election year.
Social Director(Low to Moderate Time Commitment)
The Social Director is responsible for organizing all social events for the College Democrats. Specifically, the Social Director's responsibilities include:
- Organizing movie watches, study breaks, ice cream socials, and other fun events on campus.
- Organizing a once-a-semester leadership retreat.
- Organizing an annual Formal for Dems.
- Working with the College Republicans on bipartisan social events.
Communications
Research Director (Low to Moderate Time Commitment)
The Research Director takes the lead on research for the College Democrats. Primary responsibilities include:
- Leads research on all policy-related projects.
- Advises the rest of the organization on upcoming policy opportunities, in accordance with all SAC guidelines.
- Organizes tabling and message campaigns on various issues.
- Oversees opinion-editorial submissions to the student newspapers on campus.
Publicity Director (Moderate to High Time Commitment)
The Publicity Director is a creative position that takes the lead on successfully advertising the College Democrats' events. The Publicity Director:
- Oversees the Publicity Task Force.
- Tracks and coordinates publicity efforts for every event.
- Works with the Communications Director and Staff to organize publicity and increase attendance for projects in all three departments.
- Designs flyers, banners, brochures, quarter sheets, and posters.
- Publicizes events on Facebook.
- Devises unconventional and innovative publicity strategies.
Debates Director (Moderate to High Time Commitment)
The Debates Director is the chief organizer of all debates, including all inter-party and intra-party forums. Specifically, the Debates Director is responsible for:
- Developing ideas for debates and forums.
- Reaching out to the College Republicans and other groups on campus to sponsor debates.
- Organizing debates, including food, rooms, moderators, and participants.
- Preparing debaters and researching all pertinent information for all debates.
Web and Technology Director (Low to Moderate Time Commitment)
The Web and Technology Director is responsible for the continued success of the College Democrats' website and other technology operations. Primary responsibilities include:
- Maintains the College Democrats' website.
- Continually upgrades our web technology to the best available.
- Advises the rest of the organization on how to best integrate technology into our operations.
Publication Director (High Time Commitment)
The Publication Director manages every aspect of publication. Specifically, the position:
- Selects writers and editors, sets deadlines, and oversees progress on the publication.
- Oversees web and technology issues regarding the publication.
- Oversees publicity efforts for the publication.
- Directs content and development of the publication.
Press Secretary (Moderate Time Commitment)
The Press Secretary is the organization’s chief liaison to all campus, local, and national media outlets. Specifically, the job entails:
- Developing a press database of all relevant outlets.
- Maintaining a press archive of all mentions of GUCD in the news.
- Advising the media on upcoming organization events.
- Working with the press on stories about the organization.
Membership
Alumni Relations Director (High Time Commitment)
The Alumni Relations Manager is charged with developing and strengthening ties to former members of the Georgetown University College Democrats. On a day to day basis, the Alumni Relations Director is responsible for:
- Expanding the Alumni database by working with the Georgetown University administration
- Planning and hosting at least one alumni event per semester
- Compiling an electronic alumni newsletter to go out monthly
- Organizing an Alumni Council
- Supporting opportunities for students and alumni to mutually benefit from one another
Field Director (Moderate to High Time Commitment)
The Field Director is responsible for running campaigns on our campus. On a day to day basis, the Field Director is responsible for:
- Coordinating and overseeing all voter registration and absentee ballot programs
- Planning and executing our turnout operation on campus.
- Planning dorm storm events and innovative ways to recruit new members in the fall
Deputy Board(Moderate Time Commitment)
The Deputy Board positions will be selected based on the need of the organization and the desires, vision, experience, and time commitment of the applicants. Those who wish to be a Deputy position should have a specific vision for their proposed position:
Leadership
General Communications Staff (Low Time Commitment)
The General Communications Staff works with the Communications Director to help spread the Democratic message on campus. Responsibilities vary greatly, but often include:
- Designing and posting flyers and other publicity materials.
- Developing issue campaigns.
- Writing op-eds and working with the press.
- Updating the website.
- Conducting rapid response after major speeches and events.
- Preparing for and engaging in debates.
Events Project Team (Low Time Commitment)
The Events Staff works with the Events Director to help plan, coordinate, and execute College Dems events. Responsibilities vary greatly, but often include:
- Planning and brainstorming ideas for events.
- Working with members of the Appointed Board on specific projects, including contacting speakers and Hill offices.
- Helping run all Dems events, including social events, campaign events, speakers, and the Internship Fair.
Dorm Captains (Low Time Commitment)
The Dorm Captains work with the Membership Director to help get members involved in specific dorms on campus. Responsibilities vary greatly, but often include:
- Publicizing Dems events inside your dorm.
- Providing opportunities for people living in your dorm to get involved.
- Working with the Membership Director on other projects that involve the entire membership, including voter registration, absentee ballots, and a member database.
- Organizing dorm-specific events and providing opportunities for General Members to get involved.
